Conversation Topics

The word “conversation” according to the RAE (Royal Spanish Academy) dictionary is from the Latin “conversatǐo” and is defined as the action and effect of talking familiarly from one or more people with other or others.

In our daily lives we have many conversation topics in which we participate in many ways, and if we pay attention, we’ll notice where our heart is and in what condition. Jesus said clearly, “For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”

There are many conversation topics, and to mention a few here are the following: (considering what Jesus said)

Family, education, work, politics, health, the environment, sports, movies, music, technology, history, science, statistics, food, of one’s self or others and you can continue the list along with me.

The truth is, there are topics we are passionate about, and we talk about them with joy, conviction, and power. We do it for weeks, months, or seasons. We inform ourselves, educate ourselves, inform ourselves through technology, media and time dedicated to other people.

In the Scripture we see a fascinating way in which Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in grace for God and men. They found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. When his parents saw him, Jesus’ response was, “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” (Luke 2:42-51)

Paul the Apostle, Jesus’ disciple invited the people from the City of Corinth to be imitators like him of Christ and not only them but those from the City of Philippi as well.

Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit writes “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (Ephesians 4:29 NIV)

If we apply Jesus example in our lives and Paul’s example we will create a big impact in each person around us and we will be able to fulfill the Great Commission.
