    R.E.S.T. Retreat

    March 18-21

Renewing the Experience of Sabbath Together Singing Oaks has been blessed recently with significant growth. Take a look around you and see the many new faces. All told; over 230 people have placed membership in the last 5 years. We believe that now is a great time for us all to be together for a retreat. What we want to do is this: Get away together take a break from the rat race, enjoy one another and enjoy God’s creation. We want a time of rejuvenation, re-energization, and dreaming about our future. We envision this as a Sabbath rest for our people in the wilderness. We are calling this retreat “Rest,” because that is what we want to experience. Come enjoy a Sabbath with your family, and energize your life. The elders at Singing Oaks feel that this is a great and important opportunity for our church so we have gone to great lengths to keep this family time as affordable as possible. The church will be covering the cost of food and activities at the retreat as well as the cost of transportation (charter coach) for each person. You will only need to cover the cost of your lodging. Think of this as an all-inclusive resort vacation (food, housing, and activities) for the price of a camping spot at your local state park or the cost of a hotel room. For more information about this great opportunity pick up a flyer at the welcome desk or contact the church office. We already have 80 people signed up to attend and plenty of room for you to join us.

You’re Welcome

“Welcome boys and girls, men and women of all ages!”

If you have ever attended a traveling circus you have probably heard this proclamation. These words are certainly apropos for the ringmaster as he beckons all who want to partake of the wonder and magic inside the Big Tent. As you hearken to the ringmaster’s call total strangers greet you with warm smiles and bright eyes with eager anticipation for your arrival. Everyone in the traveling show is excited for their opportunity to share with you and happy for you to walk away carrying a bit of their zestful exuberance as you go on your way. And you are happy to oblige them because this whole experience started with this one word – Welcome!

Rest

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD,
whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8 NIV

What a beautiful picture Jeremiah paints for us here: a vision of calm, serenity and peace…a vision of a life rooted in deep soil.

My Christmas Resolution

How many people made New Year’s Resolutions this year? The promises of losing weight, having greater financial discipline, and spending more time with the family are among the typical resolutions that people express. I have expressed all three of these myself in times past. But, like you, I have also expressed a shrug of defeat and a sigh of frustration when those resolutions did not materialize in my life.

Sharing Jesus

Christmas is about Jesus and the giving of Jesus to the world. Sometimes we get away from that, but at the core it’s still all about JESUS. He was given to us as the greatest gift imaginable. And through us, his church, we are charged with the responsibility and privilege of sharing that same gift with the world. How can we do that this Christmas?

The Cosmic Gift Exchange

Oh, the Holidays are upon us again and with the Christmas season in full swing there will be much partying and eating and drinking and fellowshipping. Last night I hit my 4th part of the season and Christmas is still a whole week away. I enjoy all the get-togethers and hanging with friends and loved ones but for many, the whole reason this Holiday season is worthwhile is because of the GIFT RECEIVING GIVING!

AND THEY ARE RIGHT!
